Clinical Practice and Diagnostics in Family Animals

Common to both disciplines is the desire to improve the health, diagnosis, and treatment of companion animals. Both Anesthesiology and Veterinary Clinical Pathology also work with other species, such as horses. In terms of research, the section covers a wide range of topics, including the rational use of antibiotics, hematological and hemostatic disorders, and the validation of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers.

The section’s members consist of veterinarians, bioanalysts, and laboratory technicians. We work closely with other professional groups in Denmark, such as physicians, as well as with the pharmaceutical industry and national and international research groups within our respective fields. For example, the section is significantly involved in guidelines for the rational use of antibiotics (ENOVAT) and the development of veterinary health projects in other cultures (QimmeqHealth, Mara North Conservancy Dog Project). In addition to the clinical services provided by the various disciplines at the University Hospital for Companion Animals, the section also manages core functions within the hospital, such as the blood bank and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
